« on: May 20, 2009, 10:18:11 AM »
Do the videoes that they add thus take the logo of youtube? Or the own(proper) logo? Or the two? ::)

I was  disappointed when I set up the embedder today and added a video and it has the youtube skin logo and all. Is there a way for the videos to have to same skin as the videos uploaded to my site? I know this program called seyret allows ppl to embed youtube videos the same way except the videos do not have the youtube skin nor logo, videos look just like any other video uploaded to your site.
suggestion show an example of what an embeded video looks like in the shopping cart area, because I would have bought a template instead of video embedder if I knew it would look like that. And I have no use for it until the youtube skin is replaced or hidden.

Surely that would be against Youtube's TOS?

Perhaps I've missed something then. I'm not sure how removing the Youtube skin can be reconciled with the following terms (http://www.youtube.com/t/terms)...

Quote
B. You agree not to alter or modify any part of the Website, including but not limited to YouTube's Embeddable Player or any of its related technologies.

C. You agree not to access User Submissions (defined below) or YouTube Content through any technology or means other than the video playback pages of the Website itself, the YouTube Embeddable Player, or other explicitly authorized means YouTube may designate.

If you can show that this isn't a problem I'd be very grateful - I'd love to able to do it myself.

Thanks for the links. Unfortunately the first throws an error and I'm not sure about the relevance of the second. It simply shows an embedded Youtube clip with a standard Youtube player & skin.

I wonder if we're actually discussing the same thing here. As I understand it, you want to replace the Youtube player with your own so you can have your own skin, and you want to remove the Youtube logo from the video. Is that correct?

yes right remove youtube skin and use my own...I am sure it can be done because i have used a video gallery which does just that...The youtube logo isn't of much significance to me, Im more concerned about the look skin on my site

Okay, so the two questions are:

(1) Is it possible?
Answer: Yes, you've seen someone else do it. I also accept that it's technically possible.

(2) Is it permissible?
Answer: No, it violates Youtube's TOS (see my earlier post). The TOS very clearly states that the only permissible use of Youtube content is through their player, and that you are not permitted to alter their player. Therefore removing the Youtube player so you can add your own skin is against the Youtube TOS.

Until I see a change in their TOS page I think that's the end of this discussion for me. Cheers  :)

Okay, done that. Again. Twice.

For the life of me I can't see what you're apparently seeing. I'm not looking for a fight, I'm looking for a favour. I'd love to do what you're suggesting but the excerpts below appear to rule that out convincingly. Can you please cite the specific clause(s) that show it's okay to replace the Youtube player with your own? Thanks.

4 B. You agree not to alter or modify [...] YouTube's Embeddable Player or any of its related technologies.

4 C. You agree not to access [...] YouTube Content through any technology or means other than the video playback pages of the Website itself, the YouTube Embeddable Player, or other explicitly authorized means YouTube may designate.

4 F. If you use the YouTube Embeddable Player on your website [...] you may not modify, build upon, or block any portion of the Embeddable Player in any way.

see: http://code.google.com/apis/youtube/getting_started.html#player_apis

what JW player does is use the chromeless player and use that to play the video

see an example of a simple on (not jwplayer)

Thank you LennonNZ!! Now we're talking. It still includes the Youtube logo but I'm fine with that and I think poodawgg is too. This looks like the perfect solution - I'm much obliged  :)

To be honest I doubt whether most users would even notice, much less care.
